First published in , A Wreath for the Enemy is the compelling story of a precocious fourteen-year-old girl and the nineteen-year-old woman she becomes. The events of one late night transform what appears at first to be a typical adolescent crisis, launching Penelope Wells and her counterpart Don Bradley into separate, prolonged struggles for self-definition.   All you need is a book (or several, if you’re using skinny paperbacks), a stapler, a foam board or wreath, and a glue gun. I used my old Norton Anthology from high school. It’s been sitting in our Book Box of Guilt—those perfectly good books that we don’t want and nobody else does either—so it was a good candidate for ripping to pieces.

Last year I made a rather large book page wreath to hang over our mantel. Today I am going to share the tutorial of how to make this simple wreath from an old book.

I am a lover of old books and words printed on almost anything so it was a given that I would fall in love with this book page wreath when I saw it on the internet. ISBN: OCLC Number: Notes: Originally published: London: Heinemann, Description: xv, pages ; 20 cm.

Series Title. What makes A Wreath for the Enemy so brilliant, to my mind – well, it’s the writing, and the quirkiness, and the great humour – but it’s also the unusual way in which it’s written. It’s as though Frankau took a traditional novel, threw it up in the air, and wrote up what fell to the ground.

Here at FadedPage and. This past summer, my friend Melissa Deming of Hive Resources launched the paperback version of her book, Daughters of the King. It was super exciting and I was honored to help her with the book launch party. In developing the party theme of vintage books, burlap and lace, I made this book page wreath for her door.

I n their episode on Barbara Pym’s Excellent Women, Backlisted favorably mentioned Pamela Frankau’s A Wreath for the Enemy as sitting somewhere between I Capture the Castle and Tender Is the Night.I had never heard of the book or of Frankau.

I was intrigued by the title. What was the impetus for the offering. And what kind of offering is this wreath. COVID Resources. Pictured above is the book I chose (a vintage copy of Passion Flowers) and the top of the pizza box I would use as the base. After gathering the box and the book, I needed to decide how big I wanted the book wreath. Keep in mind that the base is going to be the smallest part of the book wreath because the book pages will span out of it.

Pamela Frankau has 23 books on Goodreads with ratings. Pamela Frankau’s most popular book is A Wreath For the Enemy. The only thing that stops me from saying that this book is perfect is the structure.

The shifting voices, the overlapping stories, worked wonderfully well, and I liked the more linear story of ‘The Willow Cabin’ a little more.

So ‘A Wreath for the Enemy’ is one small step away from perfection. One very small step.4/5(3).I started with a book of Shakespeare plays. I found mine at a thrift store for 50 cents a while ago. I watched a movie while I rolled the pages up one by one to make it easier when I went to put them on the wreath “form.” It took about 1/3 of the book.
